The following are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive as a reiki practitioner!

What should I expect from my reiki session?
Each session is unique, but you can expect to feel calm and deeply relaxed, and to feel a sense of tingling, pulling, or pressure. While receiving reiki, it is common to feel cold, while the practitioner’s hands may feel hot to the touch. Challenging emotions may emerge during reiki – this is a positive indication that it is time for that energy to be released. Whatever arises during reiki, you can rest assured that it is for your highest good.
How does a session work logistically?
Reiki is performed fully clothed on a massage table, bed, or yoga mat. Prepare yourself as if you are getting ready to take a nap – remove your shoes, get comfortable with a blanket and pillow, and start to relax. The practitioner will gently place her hands on certain parts of the body, and hover her hands over other areas. A completely hands-off option is also available.
What should I expect after my reiki session?
Be gentle with yourself following reiki. You will likely feel very calm, relaxed, and energetically “lighter.” If possible, I recommend relaxing in a peaceful environment immediately following a session. Also be sure to hydrate! Finally, it is common to feel lingering sensations for up to three days after a session. If you have any concerns or questions following a session, please do email me.
How frequently should I receive reiki?
You are the best judge of how frequently you can benefit from reiki – ultimately I recommend listening to your body’s needs. In more concrete terms, if you are working though a challenging time, I recommend reiki sessions approximately once a month until symptoms improve. I advise waiting at least 3 weeks between sessions, as the energy does continue to move through your body after the session concludes, although there is no harm in receiving reiki more frequently. If you are generally feeling good, reiki can be a fantastic way to maintain your energetic integrity with sessions approximately every six months.
Can I do reiki on myself?
Yes! Attuned reiki practitioners can perform self-reiki. For more information about upcoming reiki trainings, check out the events page.
What can I do to manage my own energy?
Everything is energy, so my most important advice is to be mindful of how your surroundings affect you. Everything from the food you eat to your working environment and your thought patterns leave an energetic imprint.
